This is the M1875 experimental shirt, in dark blue. It is made from Dark Blue flannel "deemed unsuitable
for blouses". It is the same as the 1874 pattern shirt, except for the
color. It has a stand and fall collar, drop shoulder sleeves and small steel
buttons. The shirt has two placket buttons, a neck button and long tails.

M1879 Grey Issue Shirt (M1877, M1878) |

This is the M1879 government issue shirt, in gray wool flannel. Although it was not officially adopted until 1879, there
were ten thousand made up and issued by late 1877. It is therefore sometimes
referred to as the M1877 or M1878 issue shirt.
This pattern shirt was a concession to
the common soldier practice of cutting the collars off the standard issue shirt. It is the
same as the 1874 shirt, except the collar has been left off. It has a small standing
collar (neck band), insert sleeves and tin buttons. The shirt has two placket buttons, a
neck button and long tails. Made from original specifications.

This is the M1881 government issue shirt in Dark Blue wool
flannel. It is made from our 12 ounce dark blue wool flannel, the standard shirt
has a stand and fall collar, inset sleeves, cord piping in the branch of service
colors down the front, around the edge of the collar and at top of cuffs.
This shirt opens completely down the front, rather than the pull
over styles of previous years. Black imitation rubber buttons are sewn on.
Version #8130 is without front pockets, while version #8131 has
two front pockets trimmed at the top in the branch of service colors. Specify branch
of service.
